Must Have Mobile Applications For iOS And Android

As the holidayÔÇÖs wind down, many are looking at their new tablets and phones wondering what kind of mobile applications they should install. While the Android and iOS app stores have many of the same mobile applications, there are many that are different so we are going to cover some must have apps for your mobile device(s) based on your OS.

Android

Snapseed

This free mobile applications is one of the few image editing apps in the Google Play store. Most that existed before this powerful addition offered cheesy clipart into your pictures rather than allow the basic necessary functions like crop. Snapseed has the ability to pull images from Cloud services so you can utilize its editing functions on a tablet that may not have a great rear facing camera.

Google Drive

This is GoogleÔÇÖs cloud service. This particular mobile application is great for tablets with the ability to create new files within the application as well as sort and sift through what is there. It works hand in hand with Google Docs so you can open and edit documents without the need of an additional app. This function comes preinstalled on many Android tablets and is well worth installing.

Pocket

This mobile application is an evolutionary step up from Read It Later. This app allows you to save videos, images and articles for viewing at a later time. Pocket displays what you have saved strait in the app without needing to open up a browser and with the exception of videos will cache your content for offline viewing.

Chrome

This browser comes standard on Nexus devices, but not all mobile devices have it as default. This fantastic mobile application allows you to sync your schedule, bookmarks, open tabs and many other parts with its desktop counterpart. If you donÔÇÖt have this on your Android mobile device, you need it.

Accuweather

This free mobile application offers a great read on the weather that will help you stay aware of your surroundings and whether or not it is safe to travel. This app may not be the most fine-tuned when it comes to graphics, but it is easily updated to fit 7 and 10 inch screens which puts it way ahead of the game. It is also capable of sending you notifications and other configurable alerts.

iOS

Snapseed

Interestingly enough this free mobile application is great on the iPhone and iPad. It offers a great experience on the iPad which is great for editing media. There are other options out there in the Apple Store like iPhoto and Photoshop Touch, but both of these come with a hefty price tag. They may be worth it if you donÔÇÖt mind spending the money, but Snapseed is great already and adding free into the mix just made it better.

Dropbox

Apple has a great cloud service in iCloud, but if you wish to a type of file syncing outside of the rather limited iCloud then Dropbox is for you. Not only do many iOS apps accept files from both iCloud and Dropbox, but the two can be used at the same time without messing anything up.

Spotify

There are many options when it comes to music apps on iOS, but Spotify takes the cake with its free streaming service. Streaming is great for mobile devices and on iOS devices you can sync them through iTunes as well as share your listening habits with friends on Facebook. There is also a premium subscription you can elect to pay that will give you access to playlist syncing and offline listening.

Accuweather

Like with the Android OS, The Accuweather mobile application is great for iOS. The iPad doesnÔÇÖt have a native weather app installed so this is particularly useful on the tablet. You can receive hourly and 15-day forecasts as well as satellite maps and cloud syncing.

These are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to mobile applications on mobile devices, but they certainly fill a gap. Mobile applications are what make the phones today what they are and without them we just have a phone. There are hundreds of thousands of mobile applications out there, many filling similar needs, but there are more being developed every day. They range from entertaining games to useful functions that just make life easier. If you are just sitting down with your mobile device and wondering what to do with it, take a look at these mobile applications and search around your respective app store. There is much to be found.
